Here is the easy-to-make Red Velvet Cake Recipe at home with a restaurant-like taste. This cake recipe is originally made with cocoa powder and the added buttermilk gives it some tastier flavors. We also made a recipe for the frosting as it is one of the most difficult tasks to get the perfect texture. You must use a cake-cream pipe to make puffs on the cake, so, first, purchase it from the market.

Instructions for Red Velvet Cake Recipe:

For Cake:

2½ cup all-purpose flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder (Unsweetened)
½ tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
½ cup butter (Unsalted)
1½ cups sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
¾ cup olive oil (can be vegetable oil)
1 cup buttermilk at room temperature
1 tsp distilled vinegar (white)
½ tsp red food coloring

For Frosting:

1½ cup butter (unsalted)
220 gm or 8 oz cream cheese
4 cups sugar
1 tbsp vanilla extracts
A pinch of salt

Instructions for Red Velvet Cake Recipe:

  • Preheat the oven to 350˚F or 180˚C, placing the racks in the oven. Now, place the butter paper in two round cake pans or you can also replace butter paper by applying butter on to the surface of the pan and sprinkle the flour on it.
  • Lets start to make batter, add flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda into a bowl and mix them well. Place the mixture aside and take another bowl, mic the unsalted butter and sugar with a blender for about 1-2 minutes.
  • When the butter and sugar mixed well, add the eggs and again blend it until fully combined, add vanilla extract (again mix it well), add olive oil or vegetable oil. Now, add buttermilk and vinegar to the mixture and again stir it well.
  • Blend it well until fully combined or looks smooth, add the flour mixture to this batter and blend it again. At last but not least, add red food color to the batter and mix it well.

  • Now, place the cakes into the pre heated oven and bake it for about 30 minutes. To check the cake, take a toothpick and put it into the center of the cakes and see if it comes out clean, if it is clean then the cake is fully baked.
  • Let the baked cake cool down for about 20 minutes and after that run a spatula to the edges of the cake to let it out of the pan easily. Now set them side on to a rack and start to make frosting for red velvet cake.

For Froasting

  • First, take butter and blend it until smooth, add cheese and blend again, add vanilla extracts and a pinch of salt to mix it well, add sugar and mix well for about 2 to 3 minutes. Beat until it gets smooth and looks like cream of cake.
  • Now, your cream cheese frosting is ready. Take one cake on the cake server or some board to place the cake well, add frosting on the top of the cake to make a layer of cream by spreading it to the edges. Put the second cake on the layer of cream to cover it, again add frosting as a layer to the edges.
  • Now, after the layers of cake and cream is ready, coat the cake fully with frosting from the sides and top, add a good amount of the cream to the sides to coat the cake properly.
  • Take a pipe for the cream to decorate the cake, put all the remaining frosting to the cream pipe. Take the red sprinkles, it’s all upon you to use different types of red sprinkles for decorating the cake. Take the cream pipe and make cream puffs on the edges of the cake or as you like.
  • Put the cake into the refrigerator for about 1 hour or more to serve. Finally, you red velvet cake is ready to serve.
